The Day The Hair And The Music Died

Today is a remarkably sad day - we've lost two of the most iconic pop culture figures around. We've got Farrah Fawcett, the Charlie's Angels star whose poster adorned the walls of boys and burgeoning lesbians everywhere. And Michael Jackson, whose dance moves, sparkly glove and red leather jacket I aspired to have (um, and his jeri curl too but don't tell anyone).

They will both be missed by the world and my heart goes out to their families. Here is the giant glove experiment's video of MJ in better days and some great old Farrah footage:

Good Night and Good Luck Dom DeLuise

Before my heart turned to black ice and my Netflix cue was filled with films like Requiem for a Dream and Happiness (I am so dark) my favorite movies included Blazing Saddles ("I'm not gonna hurt you, I'm just gonna eat you!") and Spaceballs ("May the Shwartz be with you"). The funny fat man who made me chuckle, Dom DeLuise is off to that great Old Country Buffet in the sky.

I tried so hard to find the video of Chris Farley doing a Dom DeLuise impersonation on Saturday Night Live - but since it involves peeing his pants, it's probably not in great taste. So instead - here is a great clip of Dom on the Johnny Carson show. Rest in peace my funny friend.

Michael Chrichton You Will be Missed

The literary community has lost an incredible writer today; author Michael Chrichton lost his battle with cancer at the age of 66.

Michael Chrichton

Chrichton was not only the author of classics like, "Disclosure" and "The Andromeda Strain", he also helped create the television show, "E.R." We will miss Chrichton and his ability to scare the crap out of people. The scene in Jurassic Park with the Velociraptor is just about the only thing I remember from that movie.

Jennifer Hudson's Family Murdered

Jennifer Hudson shows up for The Secret Life of Bees premiere

What the hell is going on lately? I feel like there's been a lot of high-profile murders lately involving the relatives of celebrities. The latest happened in my home town just a few hours ago. Jennifer Hudson is the latest celebrity to have tragedy strike. Both her mom and brother have been fatally shot in their home on the South side of Chicago. According to ChicagoTribune.com the police think it may stem from a domestic dispute involving someone Hudson's sister may be dating.

Jennifer's young nephew, Julian King, had been living with Hudson's mom and is now missing. He is thought to be with the suspect, William Balfour.

My heart goes out to the family.

Goodbye to the Foxiest of Silver Foxes: Paul Newman

Paul Newman Slapshot

This post comes to you better late than never. After 83 years on this earth and 50 years being married to Joanne Woodward, Paul Newman passed away this weekend after battling cancer. Newman was made famous for his acting (my favorite of his movies being Slap Shot) but his humanitarian efforts are what set him apart from all others. He and Woodward were the first Brangelina.

Today, I'll be making my way to Whole Foods and my shopping list will consist of only Newman's Own products.

Our Thoughts Go Out To Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre

In some incredibly sad news, Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his 20-year-old son. Andre Young Jr. had been out partying but made it back home around 5:30am. The next morning around 10am, his mother went to wake him but he was unresponsive.

This is coming after weird gossip about rapper Lil Wayne's daughter being killed in a car accident. Luckily for the rapper, the rumor isn't true. Unfortunately for Dre, it's his reality.

The Master is Gone

The other day when I was posting about Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, I almost mentioned one of my other favorite films of all time, The Last Dragon. My Dad and I used to watch it on our Sunday Fundays and I would repeat the dialogue word-for-word as it played. It was the first time I saw the unbelievably cute Keshia Knight Pulliam (then only 5 or six years old) playing Leroy "Bruce Leroy" Green's sister Sophia. It had everything I could possibly want, kung fu, breakdancing, hot actors and one of the best villains of all time, Sho'Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem. He was the meanest, prettiest, baddest mofo low down around that town. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't the true master and Leroy kicked his tushy.

Sadly, Julius Carry who played Sho'Nuff, passed away on August 20th, 2008, he was only 56. Hopefully he'll be telling fools to kiss his Converse up in heaven.
