I'm not what you would call a fan of experimental electronic music. Growing up in Chicago, I prefer my beats to be of the dirty House variety and as a child of the 80's I like my electro to be electroclash. That being said, I was actually taken aback by Growing's album, Pumps.
It's hard to call it experimental minimalism considering the many layers of sound that have gone into the album's production - but it comes across as such. Maybe it's just the fact that the album doesn't bother me that makes it feel minimalist. When I think of experimental, I think of art-noise that pierces my eardrums with screeching sounds of babies crying atop the buzz and whirl of a blender. Pumps, on the otherhand, is downright enjoyable!
Check out and download "Hormone" and see for yourself. This particular song reminds me a bit of Aphex Twin eventhough they are using only instruments to create these sounds - not a computer.
