For some reason I've been having a lot of problems finding quiet spaces to conduct interviews lately. It is because of this that my time spent with Seattle dream-pop band Barcelona wasn't best put on video. I was able to salvage a chunk of the footage we got but truth be told, Brian, Chris and Rhett were more fun off-camera anyway. To say they are adorable is an understatement - as was evidenced by the fangirls standing around waiting to take pictures with the band after the show. I wonder how many Facebook pages were updated with photos of Barcelona the next day.
For as young of a band as they are, their sound is quite mature. Lead singer and keyboardist Brian Fennell's keen ability to story-tell helps fill his songs with passion. With Chris Bristol playing guitar and Rhett Stonelake on drums the energy on stage is hard to ignore. An added bonus on the band's first album, absolutes, and to their live show in Chicago was the presence of their producer/violinist Brian Eichelberger. I am a sucker for string instruments so this only added bonus points to an already enjoyable concert experience.
For those of you who need me to compare them to another band, their sound was very much like the love-child of Radiohead and Coldplay. In a few years time, I'd expect at least one of their songs to be featured on a higher-budget indie movie soundtrack. To get a sneak peak for yourself, have a listen on their website. I'm expecting big things.
