Babs must've been too busy yelling at Elizabeth Hasselbeck to really think about who should be on her 10 Most Fascinating People of 2008 list. I don't usually think of her as a procrastinator but that's the only explanation I can muster up for why she would put Will Smith, Miley Cyrus and Tom Cruise on the list. Either that or their publicists paid a lot of money for them to be put on that list.
Will, Miley and Tom aren't interesting - and even if there were more to them than meets the eye they surely aren't going to confess their deepest darkest secrets to Barbara Walters. Will will probably spend ten minutes laughing at his own jokes; Miley will claim she's been misunderstood and once the cameras leave will take more scandalous camera-phone pictures to post on the internet; Tom will profess his love for Scientology and praise Katie for her theatrical debut and claim that Suri is a strong and talented woman. End of story.
Let's hear from some really fascinating people like John Hodgman who plays the PC in the Mac vs. PC commercials. He has taken on the role of the nerd opposite Justin Long's cool hipster - but in reality is smarter, funnier and more badass than Long could ever be.
How about Babs talks to all three of the recently replaced Girls Next Door? Kendra, Holly and Bridget are going their separate ways and Hef's got two new girlfriends. I, for one, would like to know things that only Barbara Walters could get out of them.
Let's start a petition for next year. Who else would you rather see on her list of fascinating people?
