Canadian Teen Programming Still Rules the School

My dearest Chubby,

I have a whole group of folks who's wearabouts I would like to know of. They're all from a certain show I knew and loved as a child, the cast of Degrassi Jr. High (the original - NOT this next generation B.S.)

I remember being a kid and seeing Spike, the pregnant 8th grader, the creepy, ugly twins walking the hall. I remember Joey, Snake and Wheels' cool band playing their hearts out for the other unfortunate looking creatures of Degrassi. I'm pretty sure there was a closet whore although her name escapes me.

I dearly loved all the drama and hard hitting issues Degrassi Jr. High tackled, as well as the fun those Jr. Highschoolers had. I remember being 9 years old and thinking to myself "I hope MY junior highschool years are filled with the same drama and fun". Thankfully, no one in my class ever had to deal with 8th grade pregnancy issues but boy we DID have some fun!

Anyhow, Chubby, I would be indebted to you FOREVER if you could help me find out what these amazingly talented and beautiful group of actors were up to today.

I'd also like to give a shout out to Canada for bringing us such a gem of a show. What up Canada!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Liz

We found them for you after the jump!

Dearest Liz,

The 80's and early 90's were an amazing time for after school programming. The best of the best was Degrassi Junior High which kicked Saved By The Bell's ass. The show dealt with real-life situations like losing your virginity, drugs, abusive relationships, teenage pregnancy and epilepsy (we remember the epilepsy episode really well for some reason). It turns out, and this might shock/annoy/mystify you, but most of our favorite characters have come back to life in Degrassi: The Next Generation. The good news is that they still have those adorable Canadian accents.

One of our favorite characters and the guy with the best hats was always Joey Jeremiah. He and his The Zit Remedy bandmates, Wheels and Snake, were always up to shenanigans. Currently you can find Pat Mastroianni back on Degrassi, where he plays one of the main character's step-dads.

Archibald "Snake" Simpson, the tallest of The Zit Remedy's band members, can also be found in the hallways of Degrassi these days. Stefan Brogren pretty much looks exactly the same but a little fleshier and more of a receding hairline.

The last member of the band was everyone's favorite bespectacled redhead, "Wheels". Neil Hope stayed out of the limelight for a while, but according to the Fave TV website, he's going to get back into acting soon.

The hottest girl at Degrassi, and Joey's on-again off-again love interest was Caitlin (eventhough he boinked Tessa Campinelli). She had the cool skunked hair and the angelic skin. And whaddaya know? Stacie Mistysyn ALSO made it back to Degrassi from 2001-2006. She continues to change her hair color and is still a stone fox.

The coolest of the cool, and the one who got knocked up waaaay before Katherine Heigl, was Christine "Spike" Nelson. Her hair was high, she was a punk and Shane was her baby daddy. The years have been good to Amanda Stepto. She plays the mother of one of the main characters on the new show (presumably, Shane's daughter) but apparently she is now married to Snake. Weird.

Shane the horny, alcoholic teen (didn't he get into a bad car accident or something?) who got Spike preggers, is NOT on the next generation. Billy Parrott continued acting and has had bit roles in Queer as Folk, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Saw III and Lars and the Real Girl.

If anyone was wondering what to get us (or Liz for that matter) for Arbor Day, here's a clue:
